Success Story

chargecloud: efficient management of the charging infrastructure for Ford sites in Germany

Thousands of employees, two sites, one charging solution
Ford and chargecloud make it possible.

With the electrification of plants and fleets, Ford is launching a major e-mobility initiative. The project starts in Germany specifically at the Cologne and Saarlouis sites with more than 1,400 charging points. It takes more than “just” charging stations: what matters is a system that reliably supports management, operations, and billing across multiple locations and is designed for growth from the very start. With its Operating System (OS), chargecloud provides exactly that: a robust, scalable solution and the ideal partner to work with Ford on an initiative of this complexity.

From the Ford parking lot to the home garage: everything in one system

In parallel, different charging scenarios must coexist seamlessly within the same solution: charging for employees and guests at company sites; fleet charging with clear tariff logic and the corresponding billing for different user profiles and also home charging for company cars, which from January 1st, 2026 requires traceable consumption data and transparent reimbursement mechanisms.

In its role as Charge Point Operator (CPO), Ford will directly manage the day-to-day operation of the infrastructure. To do so, it needed a solution capable of structuring and naturally connecting all processes on site and at home.

chargecloud’s e-mobility ecosystem meets these requirements perfectly. At the heart of the solution is the chargecloud OS, a cloud software platform that covers all required use cases: Workplace Charging, Fleet Charging, and Home Charging. What would otherwise have required multiple tools and separate applications is now consolidated into a single, consistent, integrated Operating System.

"The charging infrastructure at our sites in Germany is a key element in supporting our employees in the transition to electric mobility. chargecloud’s solution provides us with the technical foundation and the functionality needed to efficiently manage and harmonize the expansion of our infrastructure."

Automated billing to simplify every process

Automated billing takes into account different local tariffs. For example, Ford employees charge at company sites under different conditions than guests. In addition, for a selected group of employees with company cars, the integrated home charging function is available: they can charge using their household electricity supply and receive reimbursement based on verifiable consumption transparent and compliant from a tax perspective.

Fleet vehicles used for business trips and company activities can also be identified and charged according to dedicated rules, via RFID or in the future Plug & Charge.

Thanks to the chargecloud Fleet & Partner Portal, Ford stakeholders have a clear, immediate overview across all sites: who charged, when, how many kWh, under which tariff, and with which role.

Outlook

Growing step by step

The project includes around 1,400 charging points across the Cologne and Saarlouis sites, creating a strong foundation for the next steps. After the launch in Germany, the goal is to extend the collaboration to additional Ford sites across Europe.

„Our collaboration with Ford shows how complex charging infrastructures can be managed efficiently with a scalable software solution—securely and across multiple sites. We are truly happy to accompany Ford on this journey."
